Case Study: 6.3kW Solar PV Installation with 2 x 5kWh Enphase batteries

Project Overview

Tim and Bev, homeowners in Ely, Cambridgeshire, contacted Eco Installer after already taking an important step towards decarbonising their home with the installation of a heat pump for heating and hot water. Familiar with renewable technologies, they were keen to go further by installing a solar photovoltaic (PV) system with battery storage to maximise self-consumption of renewable energy and reduce reliance on the grid.

Their key priority was the ability to store excess solar generation so it could be used later in the day, particularly to support their all-electric home.

The Challenge

  • Design a solar PV system that would work seamlessly alongside an existing heat pump
  • Maximise on-site energy generation and storage
  • Ensure high performance, reliability, and future-proofing
  • Deliver a system suited to a modern, well-insulated, all-electric 5-bedroom home

Our Solution

Barry carried out a detailed site survey to understand Tim and Bev’s energy usage, storage requirements, and roof layout. Back in the office, Barry and Becki worked together to produce a tailored solar and battery design that balanced performance, aesthetics, and long-term value.

The final system design included:

Technology Installed

  • 6.3kW on-roof solar PV system
  • 15 × Jinko Tiger Neo 425W N-Type all-black monocrystalline panels
  • Enphase IQ8AC microinverters with integrated MC4 connectors
  • 2 × Enphase IQ 5kWh battery storage units (10kWh total storage)

The use of Enphase microinverters provides panel-level optimisation, excellent monitoring capability, and increased resilience, while the battery system allows surplus solar energy to be stored and used when generation is low.

Installation

Our in-house solar team installed the system over the course of one week. All works were completed to the highest standards and later passed an independent industry body inspection with no issues.

The Result

Tim and Bev now benefit from a highly efficient, integrated renewable energy system that works in harmony with their heat pump. The solar array generates more electricity than the household uses over the year, significantly reducing their running costs.

Key outcomes:

  • Fully electric, low-carbon home
  • Annual energy bills of approximately £450 for a 5-bed detached property
  • High self-consumption of solar energy thanks to battery storage
  • Long-term system reliability and excellent performance

Nearly two years on, the system continues to exceed expectations.

Client Testimonial

What a fantastic team they are at Eco Installer. They gave me great advice while specifying my solar installation, listened to my crazy thoughts and did a first-class job on the actual install, giving me exactly what I asked for.

The work was all done to the highest standards and sailed through an independent industry body inspection without a problem.

It has now been almost two years since Eco Installer completed our Solar PV and battery installation and it has continued to function better than we could ever have imagined. Our house is new, well insulated, and uses a heat pump, so we only use electricity for all our energy needs. Our total energy bill for the first year was around £450 and will be similar for the second year.

I am very happy to give Eco Installer a 5-star rating.
